The World Happiness Report 2021 focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and how people all over the world have fared
The [World Happiness Report](https://worldhappiness.report/ed/2021/) is an annual report by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network that seeks to track the overall happiness of people in countries based on a number of contributing factors including the average GDP per capita, level of social support, life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, perceived corruption. The happiest countries enjoy high per capita earnings, strong social benefits like universal health care, that contribute to long life expectancy, and strong civil liberties including right to make life choices and low perceptions of corruption. The unhappiest countries are generally where people are the poorest, where governments struggle to offer basic services and as a result life expectancy is lowed. People living in countries that are authoritarian or going through instability are also less happy due to high levels of corruption to lack of personal freedom or opportunity to make life choices.Of the 149 countries ranked, people in Finland were rated the "happiest" followed closely by the other Scandinavian countries. Afghanis which have suffered through decades of war and civil unrest are the least unhappy followed by a grouping of Eastern and Southern African countries.
